Price Gilman Scholars with Dean Pullin

Three student entrepreneur teams from the University of Oklahoma

After competing with nearly 40 teams throughout the Norman and University of Oklahoma communities, three teams of OU student entrepreneurs have been selected to participate in the upcoming Norman Innovation Challenge. The community entrepreneurship event will be held from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Studio at Sooner Theater, 110 E. Main St., in Norman. Admission to the public event is complimentary.

201 Talk with Darley Newman

Our fourth 201 Talk, hosted by the Tom Love Innovation Hub, was held Monday, Nov. 19. Guest speaker Darley Newman, award-winning Amazon and PBS travel show host, has been honored with five Daytime Emmy Award nominations for hosting, writing and producing, alongside media moguls Ellen DeGeneres, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. James “Jay” Lewis, a senior executive with more than 20 years of experience in the energy sector, spoke Friday, Nov. 16, at Price Hall, 307 W. Brooks St., on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus. Lewis presented as part of the Michael F. Price College of Business distinguished speaker series.

The inaugural Entrepreneurship Expo at the University of Oklahoma is officially a full-fledged community event, open to the public with complimentary admission. Hosted by the Michael F. Price College of Business’s Tom Love Division of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development at OU’s Tom Love Innovation Hub, the event was held Thursday, Nov. 15, and coincided with Global Entrepreneurship Week, slated for Nov. 12-18.

Sooner Extra Life Gaming Marathon

Gamers of all ages and skill levels were invited to participate in the inaugural Sooner Extra Life gaming marathon Nov. 2-3 at the Tom Love Innovation Hub on University of Oklahoma Research Campus in Norman, and Nov. 4 at Sooner Mall’s Immersion House and Loot and XP in the Normandy Creek Shopping Center. The weekend event included video games on multiple consoles and virtual reality, as well as board and role-playing games. A donation of $10 was suggested, and all proceeds for the weekend benefited the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Dr. Robin Felder

Dr. Robin Felder, professor of pathology and associate director of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Virginia, spoke at the University of Oklahoma’s Bizzell Memorial Library in Norman on Thursday, Nov. 1st. Felder shared his journey of launching multiple successful startup businesses while maintaining a strong academic career. His presentation was the first in a new Academic Entrepreneur Talk series.

201 Talk featuring Scott Warren

 * Oklahoma Innovation Hub - a $564,250 Economic Development Administration University Center program.

 * Oklahoma Catalyst Programs 2018/2019 - a $275,000 Small Business Administration FAST and Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST) program. 

* Agile Collaborative Prototyping Center - a $40,000 Oklahoma Business Roundtable and Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST) pilot program.

 * A new $87,500 subcontract from Oklahoma State University.

201 Talk featuring John Herrington

Our second 201 Talk was at the Tom Love Innovation Hub on Monday, Oct. 1, with former NASA Astronaut and a retired U.S. Navy officer John Herrington. As a proud member of the Chickasaw Nation, Commander Herrington became the first enrolled member of a Native American tribe to fly in space. His stories of struggle, mentorship and persistence served as a welcome reminder that our dreams and goals are gifts to pursue and enjoy with the world. 201 Talk Sept. 17

The first 201 Talk of the year was held, Sept. 17, at 5 p.m. in the Tom Love Innovation Hub. This public 201 Talk featured Mokhtar Alkhanshali sharing his improbable journey of founding Port of Mokha Coffee and how it's transforming the lives of hundreds of farmers in Yemen. With a mission to improve lives, lift economies, and revitalize cultures, the purpose of Port of Mokha goes beyond selling the best, and most expensive, coffee in the world. Mokhtar's company has been awarded the highest coffee rating possible by Coffee Review and has outranked many coffees from world-renowned farms. Port of Mokha is a symbol of hope, bravery and the impact that following through with a creative idea can have on the economic development of a country. Additional information is on Facebook.

Bass Business History Collection eBook Cover

University of Oklahoma librarian Jeffrey Wilhite has published a new ebook about the Bass Business History Collection at OU’s Bizzell Memorial Library.

Established in 1955, the Harry W. Bass Business History Collection is one of the premiere business history collections in the United States. Begun with the purpose of collecting and preserving materials relating to the history of business and industry, today the collection contains 25,000 books, with approximately 2,000 published before 1850. “Ours Is a Business Civilization”: The University of Oklahoma Bass Business History Collection, with Annotated Bibliography of Fifty Treasures presents a thorough history of the collection, from inception to present, and highlights a wide variety of invaluable Bass Collection resources from the vault.
