#SoonerWknd: Print-palooza, 2nd Friday Concert Series & Swing Night

From a printmaking demo to swing dance lessons and free concerts, we’ve got what you need to plan the perfect weekend.

*Sept. 11-13

1. 2nd Friday Norman + 2 free shows

2nd Friday Norman and the 2nd Friday Concert Series are on point this month as they host two free shows with North Meets South from 8-10 p.m. at the Brewhouse, 108 W. Main St., and Heartbreak Radio from 7-9 p.m. at Mainsite, 122 E. Main St. We’re also loving these tiny paintings by Corrie Alvaro that you can find at the Social Club.

2. Print-palooza

With a name as intriguing as Print-palooza, this art-fill event is sure to get your creativity flowing. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art hosts a printmaking demo at 2 p.m. Saturday on the third floor of the School of Art & Art History. But first, check out the gallery talk by Heather Ahtone, associate curator of Native American and Non-Western Art, at noon in FJJMA’s Ellen and Richard L. Sandor Photography Gallery. Stick around for the 1 p.m. panel discussion in the Mary Eddy and Fred Jones Auditorium.

3. Free swing dance lessons

For your Friday night plans, head to Myriad Botanical Gardens in Oklahoma City for Swing Night! Get some free dance tips from Instructor Elizabeth Willis and enjoy musical entertainment from the Storyville Scoundrels. The event takes place from 7-10 p.m. Bonus points to those in skirts with major twirl potential.

4. Pick-up soccer game

Want to work up a sweat? The Italian Club hosts a pick-up soccer game from 2-3 p.m. Friday at Lions Park. We suggesting cooling off and refueling with a smoothie at The Earth Cafe after, but hey, to each his own.

4. ‘Some Things You Need to Know Before the World Ends (A Final Evening with the Illuminati)’ at ACM@UCO Performance Lab

If that headline didn’t get your attention, we don’t know what will. We’re expecting a weird, wacky, off-the-wall Thursday evening at ACM@UCO with “Some Things You Need to Know Before the World Ends (A Final Evening with the Illuminati).” The production follows the Reverend Eddie as he locks into a heated battle against the Illuminati during post-apocalyptic times. So … ¯\_(ツ)_/¯?

5. Pick-up Soccer Game

5. 'Jurassic World' on campus

We know you've all seen "Jurassic World" once, twice — maybe even three times or more? Get one more view in and head to Meacham Auditorium this weekend. Catch the movie at 6 p.m., 9 p.m. and midnight Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

Have an event you’d like promoted in #SoonerWknd? Upload it to the OU Campus Calendar here and it could be featured in an upcoming events roundup. Have questions about the calendar or events submissions? Reach out to Morgan Day at morgan.day@ou.edu.
