OU surpasses $150 million scholarships goal with $157 million in gifts and pledges

University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren announced April 21 that OU has surpassed its goal of $150 million in scholarships and is extending the Campaign for Scholarships for five more years, increasing the goal to $250 million.

The announcement was made at a special university convocation featuring Greg Mortenson, author of the book, Three Cups of Tea, which describes his work to build schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

“The unprecedented generosity of our 20,000 friends and donors of the University of Oklahoma has allowed us to triple the original goal for scholarships in less than five years,” Boren said. “In light of this success, we are raising our goal to one quarter of a billion dollars and extending the campaign for five more years. I am deeply grateful to all of those who have helped our students and their families in these times of financial hardship.”

Reflecting broad support for the campaign, $157 million in gifts and pledges from 20,893 alumni and friends have helped OU to triple its original goal.  The success of the campaign has allowed OU to more than double its private scholarships in the last five years.
