Entrepreneurship and Venture Management

Entrepreneurship and Venture Management

Program Description

Students who dream of starting or owning their own business should put OU's Entrepreneurship and Venture Management program at the top of their list. Award-winning faculty and students make the program a top-notch option for a major course of study in the Michael F. Price College of Business. Students take classes in starting and managing businesses, new product development, financing, field studies and business planning. Graduates of the program say that it gave them the tools to turn their ideas into realities.

We recently collaborated with the Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth to form Sooner Launch Pad, a program empowering students, graduates, and members of the Oklahoma community to pursue their entrepreneurial endeavors. The purpose of this program is to help our graduating students find connections for launching their ventures as it provides a fertile environment and sound guidance.

The undergraduate program is composed of 5 distinct steps. We believe these steps will best prepare you to set forth on your entrepreneurial journey. The five steps are: IBC, three course sequence, learning from entrepreneurs, experiential learning, and Governors cup.

Degree Options

An Entrepreneurship and Venture Management student graduates with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Advanced degrees include Master of Business Administration, Juris Doctor/Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Philosophy.

Interests & Skills

Entrepreneurship and Venture Management students typically have interests in business strategy, technology business development, communication, new venture creation, running a business, and commercialization of intellectual property. High school preparation should include study in calculus, business and marketing. Prospective students should consider joining a business club at their local high school in order to better prepare them for college.

Notable Achievements

The Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine recently ranked OU's entrepreneurship program the 11th best in the nation!

In its first five years of existence, the Center For Entrepreneurial Studies has experienced rapid growth. Fourteen graduate and undergraduate courses were added, along with three faculty members and eight adjunct professors. A graduate MBA emphasis was created as well as four additional undergraduate programs, including an undergraduate business major, a minor for engineers, a minor for non-business students and a two-class sequence that emphasizes the fundamentals of starting and growing a business.
